About The Fresh Bite Tarts

Cindy (L) and Terry (R) at the East Bay Underground Market

We are two close friends, who love food. Seriously love food. We believe that cooking is the thread that connects us with our history, it connects us with our friends and family, it connects us with other cultures, and connects us with the earth and those who grow our food.

Why call it Fresh Bite? We started Fresh Bite after years, actually decades (where does the time go?) of working “normal” jobs. We decided to take a fresh look at our lives and do what rocks our world and what makes us get up and go. Hey, life is short! So we broke free of the shackles of the cubicle and we took a bite out of life and started fresh.

We’re obsessed with food: how it’s made, where it comes from, and who grows it. We live in the bountiful Bay Area among amazing farmers who grow luscious food and we are taking advantage of this by building relationships with the many sustainable and organic suppliers in the area.

Terry Betts

I had the good fortune of growing up in a family that traveled and ate with a passion. This led to a career that included cooking for a kid’s ski camp in the French Alpes, catering for the Chicago elite, and managed the kitchen for Project Open Hand in San Francisco. My path then diverted to working in global organic agriculture and in certification services before coming back to what I love, cooking. The other hats I wear include mother, wife, hiker and yogini.

I admit it, I’m a biter. (And I still like to lick the bowl.) Like Terry, my family has traveled the world with mouth wide open. I grew up in the kitchen, where weekends were spent making dumplings, and each night chopping and prepping for dinner.  My mother still gives me boxes of food whenever I visit. It’s no coincidence that I live to eat and I love to cook. My path to Fresh Bite started with jobs in public health and most recently in global organic agriculture (same organization as Terry), with cooking and baking gigs spread throughout. Besides working on Fresh Bite, I’m ready with cocktails at 5:00pm. I nibble on my family, try to swim, run and zen out at yoga.
